Finally we get to share the Eaglesham Wool Story with you! This is something that has been in the works for the last 3 years and I'm so excited to share this story. As I mention in this documentary I really can't try any harder when it comes to creating a positive apparel story. The Outerwear pieces are insulated with my own Grampa's wool! The outer material is made in Dundee by the waxed cotton manufacturer Halley Stevensons. The lining is made by Chapman fabrics, a cotton mill in Yorkshire. The corozo buttons are made in the UK. The labels are also made in East Kilbride. All of these components are then sent to a factory in Great Yarmouth to be assembled in the UK. This has also been a wonderful opportunity for me to celebrate my family’s farm. My Grampa is 92 ½ and still getting up every day and farming. My gran died back in 2021 and naturally he has been a bit lost since her passing, but living on a family farm where my Uncles still live and cousins visit regularly I feel hes still gets the connection and purpose he needs to keep living. Last year, I watched him in the distance calf a cow on his own. When we interviewed him, I asked him how he was feeling physically at 92 ½ and his reply was. ‘Give me a new pair of legs and I'll fucking outsee you’…. A dying breed! In a world where cheap convenience is ripping most of the substance out of a lot our consumables, our clothing isn’t as good and long lasting as it used to be. Due to its affordable and versatile qualities polyester is so abundant now in the supply chain. Impossible to avoid hypocrisy on this subject as we all wear it! The big issue with polyester is that it takes anything from 20-200 years to biodegrade. Also when washed, microplastics are sent into our water system and we're now at a stage where microplastics are being found in human blood. Wool is a great sustainable alternative for some pieces of apparel. Maybe not gym wear! My hoping for this story is not just for positive ripples within the fashion industry but also a positive message for human health. I know I'll sound like a broken record here but when it comes to our population's general health everything is heading the wrong way. If we all took a leaf out of Grampa John's book and got up every day, got outside, moved, connected with nature and grew some of our own fruit and veg we would be in a much better place. Thanks for reading, Ross.
